Mist and surge

The view of Archipelago of Empress Evgeniya in the light of morning sun. Archipelago of Empress Evgeniya is the chain of islands in the Bay of Peter the Great, in the Sea of Japan. The archipelago consists of five islands (Russian; Popov; Rikorda; Reinecke; Sheet), and the couple dozen smaller islets and rocks (kekur). The largest island is Russian island and constitutes two-thirds the total area of the archipelago. Administrativewise islands belong to the territory of Vladivostok city.

The time of spring on the Shkotovskoe plateau in Primorsky region of Russia is a tough time. The ice stays in the rivers throught the whole May while on the coast the grass is blooming.
The Motion of Spring

The motion of running water is melting the ice, bringing this piece of frozen taiga close to summer. Although at the sea level there is no snow, this plateau region is more than 3000 feet above the sea and this night the nature has been storming with snow and chilly wind.

The White church

Sunset breeze

Sea breeze often brings fog into Telyakovsky bay at sunset. During such occasions thick and heavy wall of fog can almost be touched. A little later the fog wraps around the beholder and hides everything out of sight with humid and salty air of the sea.
The pines

The pines manage to live on steep rocky cliffs with little soil and water. They withstand elements all year round and break through stone gripping it with the roots.

This image is a stack of exposures, making it a high dynamic range photo where tones and colors are unnatural because our eyes and mind process them in their own way differently from the software.
The Sea

The stone, water and sky. The elements of nature that man has not yet spoiled. This view has been shot in the Telyakovskogo Bay of Far Eastern Marine Reserve, the Pearl of Far Eastern Seas. High contrast of the scene has required me to set different exposure for the first row( the ground) and for the second row(the sky).
The Gull at the sea

That's probably the first panorama that turned out ok in such contrast lighting. All three rows of panorama have different exposures. By the way there IS a seagull on this picture, it's just barely seen on the Internet-sized photo.
Waiting for the storm

Several minutes ago only distant clouds out in the sea were visible. Very soon fresh breeze has pumped the grey clouds around this beautiful area. Right before that moment the sun lit the clear water highlighting the bottom and the rocky shoreline.
Misty shoreline

This panorama depicts Astafieva bay shoreline at one of those days with typical Primosky region weather. The mist is so dense and humid that the camera started soaking right after mounted to the tripod. A jacket wrap made it feel better but not for a long time. However Nikon D70 managed to take all the pictures and is working fine up to date. Kudos Nikon.
The rocky shore

The rocky shore on the panorama is a view on the marine side to the left of the Vityaz bay exit. The Foggy Mountain can be seen in the layers of mist. I had 5 minutes to shoot the panorama: wind made an opening in a fog layer, which disappeared in a short while.

The inflow of the Razdolnaya river in autumn. This panorama was actually the first big pano project. No nodal point adjustments were done resulting in severe hand blending effort.
Sunset over Vityaz bay

The sun setting over the Vityaz bay. Amateurs and pro photographers alike are fond of sunsets, no matter how notorious this occasion is in photography. And this is a way to go. No time of the day can give such a smooth philosophical mood as sunsunsets can. Still everyone sees its own sunset.
Stones out the sea

After the storm the light changes very rapidly. The sun shone for a moment on the distant rocks out in the sea, lighting them up and in a minite is was gone, leaving the murk around.
Astafieva bay

Astafieva bay is a tropical-paradise style beach of State Marine Reserve. You can visit and swim and snorkel but can not drive cars, set camps and fires. Many people ask me if this image is natural. And I say yes. The polarizer and some additional saturation make it look more tropical than it could actually be, but I refuse to move the slider of saturation any less than it is set to now. The feel of hot summer of Far Eastern south has to stay.
Dive Map of Vityaz bay

This dive map shows the dive sites around Vityaz Bay, including wrecks. Essential diving info (e.g. depths, u/w object etc.) is put near each site along with pictures of typical animals, plants and u/w views. The panorama is based on images taken from one of the spurs of Foggy(Tumannaya) Mountain. Underwater photos are kindly provided by Val Darkin. The panorama is available in Russian but can be translated in English on special request.
